Joel Dias-Porter (DJ Renegade) will be performing at a party on October 26, 2011 (the day after the Indelible Ink show) from 7pm-9pm at the Copeland-Huberman Estate in Pasadena, CA. Also performing will be Jenny Factor, Mighty Mo Rodgers, and Monica Lee Copeland. Wine and hors 'doeuvres will be served.
Joel Dias Porter was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA, and is a former professional DJ in the DC area. He is a Cave Canem Fellow. From 1994-1999 he competed in the National Poetry Slam, finishing as high as second place in the individual competition, and was the 1998 and 99 Haiku Slam Champion. His poetry has been published in Time Magazine, The Washington Post, Antioch Review, Red Brick Review, Love Poetry Out Loud, Def Poetry Jam, 360 Degrees of Black Poetry, Slam (The Book), Revival: Spoken Word from Lollapallooza, Poetry Nation, Beyond the Frontier, Spoken Word Revolution, Catch a Fire, and The Black Rooster Social Inn, an anthology of poems and photos of visual art. Performances include the Today Show, the documentary SlamNation, on BET, and in the feature film Slam. He has a CD of jazz and poetry on Black Magi Music, entitled LibationSong.
